About INCHR

About the Commission

The Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) was established in accordance with the Paris Principles to promote and protect human rights across Liberia. We are an independent constitutional body committed to ensuring that the rights of all persons in Liberia are respected, protected, and fulfilled.

Our mandate spans civil and political rights as well as economic, social, and cultural rights. Through monitoring, investigation, education, and advocacy, we hold duty-bearers accountable and empower rights-holders.

Established by an Act of the National Legislature, the Commission operates in full conformity with the United Nations Paris Principles relating to the status of National Human Rights Institutions. INCHR is a member of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) and holds "A" Status accreditation, affirming its independence and credibility.

The Commission comprises a Chairperson and four Commissioners appointed by the President of Liberia and confirmed by the Senate. Together, they bring diverse expertise in law, human rights, public policy, gender equality, and civil society advocacy.
